Description
Our Traditions range is a celebration of traditional winemaking methods that have been employed by winemakers throughout the centuries. Foot-stomped, basket pressed and hand-corked/labelled, Traditions is a true labour of love. These gentle processes extract the essence of the fruit without the harsh tannins from seeds and stalks to produce wines that burst with flavour and supple mouthfeel.
Following healthy winter rains, the 2023 vintage presented us with challenging conditions through Spring persisting through to the middle of December. Summer was warm and sunny providing ideal conditions for fruit development. Grapes harvested 6th April 2023.
From a selection of 4 clones (MV6) the fruit was hand-picked and cold soaked for 3 days prior to processing. 80% of grapes were footstomped prior to fermentation in open vats for 10 days. 20% was fermented as whole bunches. Wine was then pressed by hand (basket press) and matured for 12 months in a mix of 50% new and 50% neutral French oak barriques. Bottled in March 2024.
